CURRENT WORK

FLORE en COMMUN is a 2026 CALQ funded project in partnership with The Hudson HeartBeat Community Farm and other regional partners.  It is an opportunity to alchemize plant and place through the medium of color.

Over the course of 9 months, Villedary will be working towards generating a terroir-based color palette. These eco-processes will yield a variety of handcrafted lake pigments, watercolors, oil pastes and botanical inks; as well as artisanal tools, textiles dyes and various eco-printing techniques.

At the core, FLORE en COMMUN is a botanical art practice rooted in reciprocity that asks the questions

Can creative land practices become a helpful response to grief, doubt and ecological anxiety?

Can they help us forge ties to our ancestors and to the landkeepers that came before us?

This work is about fostering intimacy with surrounding flora and landscape, and moving towards a way of being that is less extractive. It is about learning what could happen if our culture were to free itself  from settler colonial growth economics and look to what is naturally abundant.

At it's heart, Villedary's project is an offering to her community, to the land and to the plant ancestors who are essential kin in our shared survival.
